PLE Academic curriculum

Uganda’s Primary Leaving Examination (PLE)

In Uganda, the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) is a critical exam that pupils take at the end of primary school, around the age of 12 or 13. It is administered by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and assesses students’ knowledge and understanding of the primary school curriculum. The PLE is an important exam because it determines which students are eligible to continue their education in secondary school. If a student does not pass their PLE, they may need to repeat primary school or pursue vocational training.

The Uganda PLE consists of four subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Students who perform well on the PLE have a higher chance of gaining admission to good secondary schools, while those who score poorly may be limited in their options for further education.

To progress to secondary school in Uganda, students are required to pass the PLE. Secondary school is a six-year programme, typically beginning at the age of 13 or 14 and preparing learners for higher education and the workforce.

Overall, the PLE plays a significant role in shaping the educational and career opportunities available to students.

Islamic Primary Leaving Examinations

IPLE Curriculum

IQRA Nursery and Primary School Seeta Bajjo offers four major subjects in the Islamic Theology learning framework: Arabic Language (Lugha), Holy Quran, Tarbia, and Fiqh. These subjects are taught from Nursery level to Primary Seven (Ibtidaa) and are examinable in Uganda at national level through the Uganda Quran Association curriculum.

1. Arabic language (LUGHA)

Lugha teaches pupils to read and pronounce Arabic through reading (Kiraa-a), writing (Kitaaba), spelling (Imla), and grammar (Nahawi). Since the Holy Quran is based in Arabic, pupils gain the ability to read, understand, and recite it with ease and perfection. Arabic is also an important international language recognised by the United Nations and has practical applications when travelling.

2. The Holy QURAN

Quran studies cover Tilaawa (recitation), Hifthu (memorisation), Tajiweed (intonation and recitation rules), and Tafsiir (translation). Skilled staff, qualified Sheikhs, and Sheikhats nurture pupils to understand and emulate the Holy Quran, while pre-primary learners develop proper pronunciation.

3. TARBIA

Tarbia enhances the systematic growth, skills, knowledge, and ethics of pupils with regard to Islamic teachings and life skills. It develops spiritual, intellectual, moral, social, and physical wellbeing, nurturing pupils who strive for excellence, are self-motivated, morally upright, balanced, and able to contribute positively to society. At IQRA, Tarbia supports comprehensive human growth and focuses on emerging young leaders, especially the girl child.

4. FIQH

At IQRA Nursery and Primary School Seeta Bajjo, Fiqh is studied step by step. Pupils learn rules related to purification, prayer, zakat, fasting, marriage, buying and selling, inheritance, contracts, and Halal and Haram food. Alongside acts of worship and social dealings, pupils learn the rights and responsibilities owed to Allah, the Prophet, parents, relatives, Muslims, non-Muslims, animals, and the Earth.
